Cookie Policy

General

During a visit to the website, cookies may be set on the user’s computer hard drive. This is solely to tailor the website to the needs of returning users.
Cookies and similar technologies do not allow the systematic collection of data that could identify individual users of the website.

As a result of recent legal changes, all websites targeting certain parts of the European Union are required to obtain consent for the use or storage of cookies and similar technologies on computers or mobile devices. This Cookie Policy provides clear and complete information about the cookies used by Aquafin and their purposes.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text and numeric file stored in the browser or on the hard drive of the user’s computer. This allows Aquafin to remember the user’s preferences when using the website.

Cookies do not perform any actions on the user’s computer; they simply provide the browser with additional information. In essence, cookies act as ‘memory aids’ for websites. They can remember user settings and other data (such as language preferences, login details, or selected municipality), but they do not store names, addresses, ages, or other personal information (except in some cases the user’s IP address).

Unless the user has adjusted their browser settings to block cookies, Aquafin will set cookies as soon as the website is visited.

Types of cookie

Cookies are classified according to their origin, function, and duration.

Origin

First-party cookies are cookies set by the website the user is currently visiting.

If a user visits a website and a third party sets a cookie via that website, this is called a third-party cookie (e.g. cookies set by Google, Twitter, or Facebook).

Function

Functional cookies are cookies that ensure the website operates correctly (e.g. cookies for login, language preferences, municipality selection window, etc.).
Functional cookies are typically first-party cookies.

Non-functional cookies are cookies set for statistical, social, targeting or commercial purposes. They are not related purely to the technical support of the website.

  • Statistical cookies allow us to see which pages of the website are visited, and where a user’s computer is located.
  • Social cookies enable the user to share content from the website directly via social media.
  • Targeting cookies allow a profile to be built based on the user’s browsing behaviour so that the advertisements displayed are tailored to the user’s interests.
  • Commercial cookies track how many and which advertisements have been shown to a user.

Non-functional cookies can be either first-party or third-party cookies.

Duration

Persistent cookies are cookies that remain on the user’s device for the period specified in the cookie. They are activated each time the user visits the website that set the cookie (e.g. cookies set by social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Google Analytics, etc.). Most non-functional cookies are persistent cookies.

Session cookies are cookies that allow a user’s actions to be simplified and linked together during a browser session. A browser session begins when a user opens the browser window and ends when the user closes the browser window. Session cookies are set temporarily. As soon as the browser is closed, all session cookies are deleted. Most functional cookies are session cookies.

Why does Aquafin set cookies?

Aquafin uses cookies to improve the web experience. The information they provide is used to analyse user experience in Google Analytics or to identify people who complete a contact form.

Tracking cookies from Google

Google uses these cookies to track which pages you visit within its network, in order to build a profile of your online browsing behaviour. This profile is also built using similar information obtained from your visits to other websites within its network. This profile is not linked to your name, address, email address, or similar details known to us, but is used solely to tailor advertisements to your profile so that they are as relevant to you as possible.

These cookies are necessary for:

• Displaying advertisements (at the right time, place, browser, etc.).

• Preventing annoyance. For example, the number of times an advertisement is shown is taken into account (also known as a frequency/family cap).

• Creating reports for advertisers (unique reach).

Through our website, a cookie from Google is set as part of the Analytics service. We use this service to track and obtain reports on how visitors use our website. Google may provide this information to third parties if it is legally required to do so, or to the extent that third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. Aquafin has no influence over this. We have allowed Google to use the analytics information obtained for other Google services.

The information collected by Google is anonymised as much as possible. Your IP address is explicitly not included. The information is transferred to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google complies with the Safe Harbor principles and participates in the Safe Harbor programme of the U.S. Department of Commerce. This means that there is an adequate level of protection for the processing of any personal data.
