Safe working

At Aquafin, we build with our hearts – and with our hard hats firmly on. We prioritise the safety of our employees and contractors but also of residents and passers-by near our sites. Everyone, including visitors to our facilities, should be able to move safely in and around our construction and work zones.

Safety is our top priority

Safety prevents accidents and protects all those connected with the project, ensuring that everyone gets home safely. That’s why we invest in clear safety procedures and robust measures to ensure we uphold our commitment across all our installations and construction sites. Safety is a shared responsibility, with everyone involved in maintaining a secure working environment.

Every link in the chain counts

We operate daily on numerous sites across Flanders, often in close proximity to residential areas. Safe working is therefore essential. Every Aquafin employee is a critical link in this safety chain. By recognising risks, following agreements, and speaking up when necessary, each employee actively contributes to a safe working environment for all.

Contractors and their subcontractors watch an introductory safety video and complete a short test via our registration platform. Only those who pass are permitted to work on Aquafin sites, ensuring that everyone shares the same basic understanding of safety.

Your safety around our sites

Work in your neighbourhood can be disruptive and always carries risks. To minimise the risk for both residents and our teams, we implement a range of safety measures.

But enhancing everyone’s safety also means we need your help. As a resident or passerby, following our guidelines near an Aquafin site protects both you and the people around you. Because we can’t do it alone.

If you are near one of our sites, please follow these guidelines:

  • Respect all site signage, barriers, and traffic rules.
  • Avoid entering the site unless absolutely necessary.
  • If you must enter, watch for obstacles, open pits, and vehicles.
  • Make eye contact with truck or crane operators before crossing the site. That’s the only way to be sure they have seen you. High-visibility vests help you to stand out.
  • Put away your phone and headphones so you can see and hear everything on site.
  • If you see an unsafe situation, report it to our team or contractors.
  • Look out for each other. Stay aware of your safety and that of children, neighbours, and passers-by.
